Well Rich took them to Sony and they were turned down, the reason being was that Sony wanted a full album not 2 tracks, but AMerie at the time wasnt finished fully, so rather than rush the rest of the tracks they sat on them, and leaked them underground, clubs, mixtapes etc. Now in case you all dont know, a few years back Rich Harrison and Amerie put together "1 thing" and "Talkin Bout" two very fresh sounding tracks at the time in the RB climate.
